Happy Tail: Winsome Winston
Submitted by Barbara Novak, Rutherford, N.J.:
I found my adorable Persian cat, Winston, on Petfinder.com. There was just something about his face--I had to meet him! I traveled from Rutherford to Hillsborough, N.J., about 50 miles, to see Winston. He had been rescued from a home with 63 other cats. Winston has an amazing personality and is incredibly cute. He looks like a stuffed animal that came to life! I am so lucky to have him in my life, thanks to Petfinder.
Winston was adopted from Lifeline Animal Rescue Inc. in Hillsborough, N.J.

Before You Adopt
Choose the right shelter or rescue group
The pet adoption experience at different types of shelters can be vastly different, so take the time to visit the home page of your local groups to see which you might enjoy working with most.
- Open access shelters
- take in all stray animals and are usually county or city shelters.
- Humane societies
- are private facilities. Some are open access and others are limited.
- Foster groups
- are usually volunteer foster parents who don't have a physical location.
Questions to ask the adoption group:
- Is a home visit required prior to adoption?
- What is the adoption fee?
- Are pet introductions by appointment only?
