This is the official web site of the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The Grateful Paw is operated and funded by the League for Animal Protection of Huntington, Inc.

"WE CATS CAN'T DO EVERYTHING! "

ROCKY SAYS WE ALWAYS NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS.

Rocky really did sit down on that chair at our front desk during one of his visits with his owner, a volunteer. No trick photography was needed.

The League for Animal Protection of Huntington, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue and placement of stray and abandoned animals in the Town of Huntington.
Cats are housed in The Grateful Paw Cat Shelter staffed by volunteers. Volunteers from the League for Animal Protection also work with dogs housed at the Town of Huntington Animal Center.

Remember, within the heart of every stray, lies the singular desire to be loved. So, take a look at our dear cats!

Hi! I'm SYLVESTER. I am such a mush and not ashamed to admit it. But I have to admit something else about me too. I need a home where I'll be the only cat because I have FIV. I love you humans so much, so could you please read my story, and then visit me at the shelter? You will fall in love. I promise.

UPCOMING EVENTS

We'll let you know when another tag sale is scheduled. If you missed our May and June sale, you missed some terrific shopping. There's one coming up in September, so you'll get details soon. But our Fall Festival at Heckshire Park in Hungtington will be Columbus Day weekend. It's a fabulous even, and we'd love to meet you all!

Don't forget to tell your friends we have a daily ad in NEWSDAY classified .

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month; but that's only 30 days, so come on down any month to find a feline friend for life .

August is Adopt a Homeless Pet Month. But that's a warm and wonderful thing to do anytime!!

Even if it's not November, Adopt a Senior Pet Month, please don't forget to meet our darling and most senior cats, Zane and Cass.

ADOPTIONS
Our cats and kittens are not in cages, so you can walk around the main rooms and have a seat on one of our benches. You won't be alone for long! Our cats are already spayed or neutered, checked by a vet, had all shots (rabies if over 4 months old), and tested for FIV and leukemia . Our cats are available for adoption TUESDAY-FRIDAY 12:30-4:30, and SATURDAY-SUNDAY 12:00-4:00

ADOPTION FEES
Who says you can't buy love? A $90 donation, either cash or check, is collected for each cat. Think about how much more money you'd spend for spay/neuter, vet check and inoculations at the vet. A two week health warranty is included. Sorry but we cannot take credit cards.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

SPONSORSHIPS

Since there are so many people who want to adopt and can't for various reasons, we offer a sponsorship program. We have cats that have been with us for many years. Some are not likely to ever be adopted, so Grateful Paw is their home. For only $30 per year, you can sponsor a cat. You get a picture of the cat you are helping, and you are welcome to visit your cat .This is a great gift idea too, and also a very meaningful gift given in someone's memory. Look for Cass, Zane, Tricia, Nemo, Juan, & Tamara. Their dear friend Jasmine crossed over the "Rainbow Bridge", and we hope she will watch over her feline friends, the special cats, who'd be great to sponsor.

DONATIONS

Because we are private, we always need money. You can specify a particular fund such as spay/neuter, medical, food etc. Please consider planned giving. Some of our biggest contributions have come through bequests. You can DONATE ITEMS such as Whisker Lickens cat treats, clorox, postage stamps, KMR milk powder or Hills Prescription Diet A/D canned cat food.

SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC

1. Our volunteers answering the phone in the office can offer advice and/or additional phone numbers to assist you with cat issues. Our phone number at Grateful Paw is 631-757-4517.

2. We lend HUMANE TRAPS to private citizens wishing to trap feral cats. It is so very important that a feral cat be neutered/spayed and released back to its territory. (We can give you information about that, too). There is a $85 deposit for the trap, plus a $5 rental fee. The $85 will be refunded to you when the trap is returned, in two weeks, in working order. Additional weeks are $5 for every two weeks. Traps are limited, so there may be a waiting list.

3. Call us if you've either found a LOST CAT, or if you've lost your pet cat, and we will list the cat in our lost and found book. Call all the nearby shelters too.

4. For cruelty complaints, contact the Suffolk County SPCA. To help stop animal cruelty over the internet click here and report a web site!
